Bershauna Yancey is a Family-Based Mental Health Therapist who provides intensive, family-centered support to children, adolescents, and families. Her professional background reflects a strong commitment to advocacy, trauma-informed care, family systems, and helping individuals and families navigate complex life challenges. In alignment with Journeys Counseling’s Family-Based model, her work emphasizes strengthening relationships, improving communication, supporting resilience, and helping families develop practical strategies that promote healthier functioning across home and community environments.
Bershauna holds a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and a Master’s degree in Family Science and Conflict Management. Her educational background includes studies at Hampton University, Delaware State University, and Wilmington University, where she developed a strong foundation in understanding individuals, family relationships, social systems, and conflict resolution.
Prior to entering the mental health and family services field, Bershauna proudly served eight years in the United States Army. Her military experience strengthened her leadership, resilience, discipline, and dedication to serving others. It also contributed to her interest in supporting individuals and families affected by trauma, disability, and barriers to accessing needed resources.
Throughout her career, Bershauna has served as a Disability Advocate, Sexual Assault Advocate, and Disabled Veterans Advocate. Through these roles, she has supported individuals during difficult and vulnerable periods, helped them navigate complex systems, and connected them with resources and services designed to promote safety, stability, and well-being.
Bershauna brings a compassionate, culturally responsive, and strengths-based perspective to her work with families. She is passionate about empowering others, strengthening family relationships, advocating for underserved communities, and creating environments where individuals feel heard, respected, and supported. Her approach aligns with the Family-Based emphasis on trauma-informed care, family systems, collaboration, resilience, and sustainable change.
